thoughts

is it half full or half empty? man, the glass ain't big enough.

for love to grow, we need to break.

break old habits, break old thinking, break old routines, break and burn the bridges that seem right to keep, break strongholds, break thought patterns, break from the old way of doing things, break out of the icebox and start living.

let's think different today. in fact, that was apple computer's slogan once upon a time. look where they are today. don't be afraid of the new.

Crack

I don't believe it. My left contact lens cracked like a thin piece of wafer just two hours ago. I'm still letting it sink in. I actually lost the use of my left lens again - for the fourth time!

I tell you, when the optician says you have to soak your lenses everyday, they really mean it.

That advice costs $160.

Marmalade on the shelf

Yes, it's made. About three nights ago. Shawn said it tasted really good.

You should see the orange peels suspended in the jam!

Fire In The Hole

I felt like a grenade has been pulled on me tonight. And it is not a traditional sort of bomb where you feel like someone has just unloaded a new burden on you. My heart is racing like it never raced before like I've seen the bright light and I'm utterly mersmerized by it.

I think I know how the barren woman felt when God finally blessed her with a child.

It's been almost a thousand years in equavalent. God's faithfulness is finally showing through the fruits that are bearing. I remember Pastor David at ROAG preaching the message of faithfulness. Sometimes when we are faithfully doing what God put into our hands, it may seem like we are going in circles. In circles of faithful, chanting faithful, chanting faithful, reciting the words over and over again, faithful, yet agaiin faithful ... a heart broken here, a car crash there, an empty pocket here, a hungry cold night there and the long painful journey on the tram home after a big disappointment, but faithful we must be for the Lord has placed this portion upon my lot, so faithful I go again, round the faithfulness anvil, rubbing it out, developing blisters, cold sores, broken bones and clammering teeth in the middle of the night, faithful, plough along, plough, ...fruit. faithful, look the other way, flee from temptation, faithful, seek the truth, not pleasure but faithfully showing up, learning, believing, cry a little, wipe off tears with soil stained hands, got up ... fruitful. bank account emptied, hip pocket twitching, faithful, potatoes are cheaper than meat ... faith ful, faithfulness, fruit... fruitful... faithful, faith, persevere, push through, fruitfulness, fruit, fruitful, fruit, faithful, fruit, faithful, fruit, faithful fruit, fruit, fruit, fruitful, fruitfulness, fruit fruit fruit fruit fruit faithful fruit fruit fruit fruit fruitfruitfruitfruit.......

The story is only beginning. But this is the vision of things to come. Our power is in the prophetic words we speak over ourselves to become the warrior and violent men God wants to lead into this world to change and lead yet others out of the darkness.

I am humbled tonight by your faithfulness Lord.

Itch

To buy or not to buy. Well, actually that is not even the question.

The easiest way to upgrade my machine to have it work with GarageBand and the corresponding software instruments and take advantage of Panther and OS X's Core Audio would be to invest in an eMac. The damage would only be $1400 and I would be looking at a 1Ghz G4! And like what Bart said, a new eMac would come bundled with the new iLife04 as well as preloaded with Panther. Is that sweet or what!

So why would anyone want to trade off with my Powerbook G3?

Conversely, I could get one of those non-apple endorsed upgrades from either Sonnet or Powerlogix. But the best I can get is a G3 900 or G4 550 with a hip nerve damage of US$350. That way would also deprive me of the beloved apple for a good 2 - 3 weeks at the very least since there aren't any Australian upgraders. And still I would have a problem taking full advantage of the software.

Maybe I should forget about this small little chicken nugget and aim for the bigger dogs.

Gotta get to work. An eMac is waiting for me at a shop nearby.

Marmalade

The little guide at the supermarket said that Seville Oranges were the best oranges for making marmalades because of its bitter texture. But Woolworths don't even stock them cos it wouldn't sell. So I have to settle for Valencia Oranges. Says on the label that they are the best for juicing. Hopefully they turn out good. Now I have to find out if it's 2 litres of water or 2 kg of sugar to 1 kg of oranges.

So there I was at the supermarket with an empty stomach screwing up my buying habits. They should really have larger baskets. It just wasn't enough. The raisin loaf, milk and oranges had to spill over while I mucked my way to the register. Maybe I should have given the gigantic bunch of bananas a miss.

Summer seems to be slipping away. We've had almost one full week of cold weather. For a good 75% of the day, it was below 20. Today it was like 14 degrees in the evening cos I was shivering like a squirrel at Trudie's Dad's al fresco on Errol. Had to duck to the car for my jacket. Well, I shouldn't complain. I prefer it this way than hot weather. Cos flies will be everywhere on your face and it sure irritates the socks out of me.

Found out iLife 04 works only in Jaguar and Panther. And GarageBand won't even start on my machine since I am short of 200mhz in speed. I need to upgrade my Mac life. I'm shifting my buying priorities around because the seams of this creative life is breaking out.

But I'm making Marmalade soon!

LOTR - ROTK

I did intend to pay tribute to the epic. Had so many inspirational moments at the screening but intentions only go that far.

I will watch it again and hopefully revisit some of those triumphant memories and put on an intelligible post here.

I must say that Sam is the absolute hero. We all need to activate our Sams once in a while don't we?

To the heroes we will be - here's vodka for tonight. Tonight only, tomorrow we work.

Level Playing Field

It just dawned upon me. The arrival of the information age has more ramifications for those of us who existed before the line was drawn than I could imagine.

When you thought there was nothing left in the technology world to surprise us, the visionaries slowly pull out the wild cards and push the envelope further across the table.

I am talking about Garage Band, a new consumer friendly audio application that seems to work with Pro Tools' Mbox and a host of other audio and midi interfaces.

Observing what Apple has just put out in the market place is a testament of that fundamental truth many of us are blind to. We are at a stage in the economic paradigm where skills, talent and knowledge are no longer a scarce resource. What was considered an insider experts world is now a consumer toy. And this is paving the way for new independents to rise up against the machine of the industry conglomerates. But this is just a naive thought for this will still take a long time. This being the battle against the power the music industry is welding as we read.

Someone once wrote in an indie magazine off the racks of JB HiFi, that gone are the days where a DJ chooses a good track and singles it out as a hit and plugs it on the radio and makes the song famous. A song today may be hit single material, but it takes the marketing arm of the multi million or maybe billion (i have no idea what the industry is worth, so there goes the credibility) music mantras of you know who - the big five dogs and as we speak two of the biggest are talking about mergers, to break the single onto the charts. Often millions of dollars are pumped into one single song to engineer it to standard perfection to plough in the multiple millions coming in. Commercial radio stations with, well commercial profit reasons would listen to who, you guessed it! While there are hit single one hit wonders (even) floating out there in the suburban stages waiting for the light of discovery. Well, try doing a cover on Australian Idol and you have a higher chance. But first, do something to that hair.

But will the effects of the transfer and levelling of expert knowledge overturn what is known as monopoly? It's a thought worth considering. There are stores specialising in independent music distribution. Magazines such as Performing Songwriter feature unsigned bands. Pubs and clubs host open mics for unsung writers on quieter nights. There are outlets. But in a business sense, in order to go public and reach the broad spectrum, you need money to fight, period.

Personally I got worried. Worried that whatever precious silver I dug into over the past years, working my butt off to buy those expensive gear and ardously trying to learn every note there is to pre-amp the instruments, the different dynamics and type of pickups; the new language altogether not so long ago foreign - is now levelled by this one software within iLife. And it doesn't even cost more than a pair of camper shoes!

Or maybe I'm giving too much credit where it isn't due.

New Toys at Apple

Go to Apple. New toys for your money.

1) iPod mini - the size of a business card. 4gb. 1000 songs.
2) iLife 04 - featuring this new, I suspect, Soundforge competitor, Garage Band. Wonder if any audio hardware will work with it.
3) Final Express 2.

Bart stayed up to watch the livewebcast of the SF Macworld.

I just read the news on the Apple email news.

iLife is only USD49. And Steve jobs got John Mayer to 'endorse' it! I want a test drive!
